Sometimes
the little things in life make all the difference. Like a good pair
of jeans, your children’s laughter, coffee with friends, your husband’s
cologne, or just an amazing belt. And so we want our children to have
the same small joys in life.
When my girls were little
I would tie ribbon for their belts and always have matching bows in
their hair. Even if they were covered in melted ice-cream, strawberry
milk, paint, or just dirt from head to toe, the bow and belt would
make even the worst of messes look adorable. But as my oldest daughter
started potty training and going to school, tying and untying ribbon
no matter how cute and fashionable it looked, just wasn’t going to
work for either one of us. But now what was once just a stylish accessory
was now a necessity. Kennedy’s legs were outgrowing the rest of her
and we couldn’t find a skirt or pair of jeans to stay up. So I searched
for a belt that would suit our needs: be easily accessible for a 3
year old, functional, and stylish...not an easy task. Most belts I
found were just small adult versions that were too hard and took to
much time for Kennedy to buckle and unbuckle several times a day.
After much searching with no avail, I decided to create something
myself. I took out my mother-in-laws sewing machine, the ribbon I
had once used for a cute accessory when my girls were little, and
updated the look with a little bit of Velcro. I chose all the fun,
bright, preppy colors I loved and after sewing for several hours,
and tying more bows then I can remember, I created a fast, fabulous,
functional, fun belt that would be perfect for my little princesses
that would not only hold up their pants but would dress up their jeans
or khakis and add flare to their skirts and dresses...and so SISSY
LU, a name we call our girls, was born.
With much encouragement
and endless hours of help from my husband, so many friends and my
family, I decided to create Sissy lu Velcro ribbon bow belts and matching
hair bows for every little princess. I figured if I had this need
for a stylish functional belt then maybe other mothers did too. So
Sissy lu became a reality and now only a little over a year later
we are launching the Kennedy Collection with fabulous belts and bows
like Preppy in Pink and Cotton Candy Stripe. We hope you and your
little darlings love our belts and bows as much as we love making
them.
